Website Design: Good Soil

When I first began spending time at Tom and Wendy Langebartels' home during the summer of 2008, I was intrigued and amazed by their hearts for Jesus and sharing His love with others in all sorts of ways. Fast forward 15 years, and it was no surprise that my now father-in-law, Tom, chose to launch a ministry as soon as he retired.

Good Soil offers gardening services while employing and empowering refugees. The mission and vision make so much sense, and I was excited to be invited to join the launch of this new business.

Designing the Website

I have found that creating a website for a start-up while the business vision and details are still being formulated is actually a really wise process. A website serves as the conduit between an organization and its audience, and I enjoy helping clients articulate their messaging in clear ways while also assisting them in establishing the most effective organizational systems. This was the process for the Good Soil website, and although that meant it took a bit longer to produce, I think it has set them up for a smoother launch.

I chose earthy yet vibrant color tones for the site, while incorporating more site movement than I've done before. I love scrolling through it, as it feels alive and interactive.

Partnerships

A really cool part of this project was the collaboration between family and friends. Tom called upon all the expertise throughout his circles, which meant I got to work with a great team of like-minded friends and family. My brother-in-law, Brad Langebartels, designed the logo. Another brother-in-law, Justin Langebartels, provided marketing insights and feedback. And a friend-that's-basically-a-brother-in-law, Keith Harshbarger, produced the video for the site.

If you're starting a business or organization, I cannot stress enough the benefits a communications professional will bring to your launch. I promise it will be worth the investment!
