Website Design: The Elementary

In 2014, the beloved elementary school in my hometown closed due to population decline. Not wanting to see it go to ruin, my cousin Evan purchased the building - because, let's be honest, who didn't dream of owning their elementary school one day?

Evan decided to use the facility first as an event center (later expanding to a childcare, too.) He knew how to run the business and facility components, but I came along and helped him with the communications aspects of this side business. We started with a WordPress site for a few years, but when I discovered Wix's easy-to-use backend booking, scheduling, and payment systems, I insisted we switch the site. Not only would these systems make Evan's life easier to manage bookings and payments, but Wix is intuitive enough that I felt confident he could make adjustments to the site as needed. I want to empower my clients but also never leave them feeling alone in their website maintenance.

The change of website systems was a good opportunity for a redesign. My goal was to make it easy to book and pay online. I also wanted a space to advertise the events that happen throughout the year that are open to the community, such as vendor fairs. Over the course of a weekend, I designed and launched the new website. Someday, I plan to return and make more adjustments.
